Melson was once a rival knight along with Joshi though a much braver warrior. At the fall of the old house master Melson became head of the house and became closely aligned to Baron Borca. When Borca fell Melson played a very strategic role in appearing at first to not be interested in the crown (and taking on the caretaker role) before striking at the perfect moment to become Emperor.
Although he hates Joshi he still granted him his own house. Melson is adept for not letting personal feelings affect his judgement and politics.
